Theatr Soar is in the centre of Merthyr Tydfil and is part of Canolfan Soar, a cultural hub with a cafe, gallery space and meeting rooms, that is also home to Welsh language organisations.

The entrance to Theatr Soar is along a passageway leading from the High Street. This passageway was not covered when the centre was first built, however it was always the intention to do so when funds became available. The glass canopy offers protection to visitors whilst queuing for the theatre and creates an outdoor cafe area. As part of the public art scheme for Merthyr Tydfil Town Centre, Christian Ryan was appointed to create an etched design for the glass to reflect the character, community and activities of Canolfan Soar.

In consultation with staff, a Welsh language class and Heritage group who meet regularly at the centre, themes and text were gathered that formed part of the final design.
