Worcester Care Home Entrance artwork
description
Castleoak, a specialist care home developer, commissioned this project for the entrance to their new care home and sheltered accommodation in Worcester.
Artist and designer David Appleyard was appointed and developed the concept of a scattering of coloured discs which are fixed to the railings via a welded bracket and tamper resistant fixings. Either side of the entrance the discs form a busy cluster of white, gold and cobalt blue which gradually thin out over 10 metres of railings. They draw attention to the
entrance point and act as a visual and memorable point of interest within the site. The discs are gently curved which add a lively three dimensional quality to the railings.
The shape and colours of the work reference Worcester's connection to porcelain manufacture; the dark blue and gold refer to the traditional under-glaze cobalt blue and gilded decoration.
